How We Rate Casinos & Sportsbooks: Our Methodology

Our 9-point scoring model

Each site is scored across nine weighted factors. The four "high"-weight factors — licensing, payout speed, banking and bonus value — drive most of the score, because they are what actually protects your money and determines your real return. The five "medium"-weight factors round out the experience.

What each factor means, and how we test it

1. Licensing & safety (high)

This is the first gate — a site fails immediately if we cannot verify its licence. We take the licence number from the operator and confirm it on the issuing regulator's public register, whether that is the AGCO, the AGLC, Malta's MGA, Curaçao's Gaming Control Board or the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. We check for a valid SSL certificate and for third-party RNG certification. Crucially, we state plainly when a licence is offshore or Kahnawake rather than a Canadian provincial licence — because that changes what protection you actually have.

2. Payout speed (high)

Anyone can advertise "fast withdrawals." We measure it. We fund an account, play, request a real withdrawal and time how long it takes to land, in Canadian business days, across the methods on offer — Interac, cards, e-wallets and crypto. A site that pays a tested cashout in hours scores well above one that quotes "3–5 days" and takes longer.

3. Banking (high)

We test the methods Canadians actually use. For fiat that means Interac e-Transfer — for both deposits and withdrawals, which are not always the same — plus cards and e-wallets, all in CAD. For crypto we check the supported coins and networks and the on-ramp path (see our Interac-to-crypto guide). Poor or CAD-hostile banking drags a site down no matter how good the games are.

4. Bonus value (high)

A big headline number means nothing without the terms. We read the full bonus terms and score the real value in CAD: the wagering requirement (a C$100 bonus at 35× means C$3,500 to wager before withdrawal), the maximum cashout, the game weighting, the max bet while wagering, and the expiry window. We reward genuinely fair terms and penalise traps.

5. Game range (medium)

We look at the breadth and quality of the library — slots, live dealer, table games — and which studios power it (Pragmatic Play, Evolution, NetEnt and others). A deep, provider-backed library scores higher than a thin one padded with unknown titles.

6. Mobile (medium)

Most Canadians play on their phones, so we test the mobile browser experience and any native iOS / Android apps for speed, stability and whether the full game library and cashier are actually usable on a small screen.

7. Support (medium)

We contact live chat with real questions and rate how fast a human responds and whether the answer is accurate and useful — because support quality is what you rely on the day a withdrawal stalls.

8. Fairness (medium)

We check for published RTP figures and independent testing of the games and RNG (eCOGRA, iTech Labs, GLI). For crypto casinos we look for provable fairness — the ability to verify each result yourself via the seed-and-hash mechanism — and confirm it actually works.

9. Responsible gambling (medium)

Every recommended site must offer real player-protection tools: deposit and loss limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion. We check they are present, easy to find and functional, and we surface Canadian help resources like ConnexOntario and GameSense on our responsible gambling page.

Our testing process

The score is only as credible as the testing behind it. For each site we:

• Register a real account and complete KYC, noting how smooth (or intrusive) the process is.
• Deposit with our own money — usually via Interac and, for crypto sites, via a coin transfer — recording fees and speed.
• Claim and play the welcome bonus against its real terms, tracking how the wagering requirement behaves.
• Play across game categories to assess the library, performance and any provable-fairness tools.
• Request and time a withdrawal on each viable method, in Canadian business days.
